Great gardens are a combination of many things but they all have great detailing. It is the little things that count. When we are designing a garden for our clients, thought is given to every finish. The choice of materials and how they work together. The pattern of the paving. Edging of the lawn. Colour of the mortar.

Each decision helps to improve the outcome and create a great garden but such details require skill and craftsmanship. They can be part of the design but you need the landscapers to deliver the build.

As the image shows; care, experience and skill are on show. The walling is carefully laid using new bricks which are made to mimic the old bricks of the house. The mortar joints are raked and a half round coping stone sits atop (to be added). Sawn Yorkstone setts edge the perimeter of this sunken patio with the rest of the patio laid with larger format slabs. The slabs are laid in 600mm bands of three different sizes. These are all laid on a full bed of mortar with joint spacers providing a perfectly consistent finish. A gentle fall to the paving and a slot drain will enable drainage. The patio is accessed via bespoke sawn steps with a bullnose finish.

The devil is in the detail and we look forward to showing you pictures of the outcome in the Spring.
