Mursley – Simple and Elegant
This project required a simple design to create a garden which is practical and could be easily maintained. From a sloping site, with a poor lawn we created an elegant garden with raised beds and a gravel terrace. A small patio by the house enabled outdoor dining and the planting scheme delivered on our clients’ desire for colour.

Plant of the moment: Cornus kousa. This medium sized shrub/small tree is stunning in summer when it opens it’s showy pink and white flowers (actually bracts) and creates a real wow. It likes full sun to part shade and is deciduous but is more than happy in the local clay soil. In autumn the leaves turn a beautiful colour and strawberry-like fruits appear. #plantingdesign #gardendesigner #buckssmallbusiness #gardendesignbuckinghamshire #gardendesignhertfordshire #cornus #cornuskousa
A beautiful and ecologically minded garden in Radnage that we built for @editlandscapedesign . The brief was to make the garden water sustainable and so the water from the house runs into a pond and then on into a bog garden once the pond is full. Corten steel rills direct the water and plants were chosen to thrive in the environment. @brickworksvandemoortel pavers, Desert Sand Limestone and Cotswold gravel were used as the hard landscaping. We do gardens of all shapes and sizes. Here is a little one in Bucks, all freshly planted and ready to go.
@millboard_decking is used to bridge the pesky shallow roots of the existing Birch tree and create a space for dining. Paving is a mix of @chelmervalley (foreground) and limestone paving.
Looking forward to visiting next year once the plants have matured and climbers shroud the pergola.#jandsscapes #garden #gardendesignbucks #gardendesign #pergola #birch #millboard #sculpture
Progress on this design only project. The existing pond previously sat in the lawn but had no visual or actual link with the house and other outdoor space. The plan was to integrate it and make it part of the whole. Coming along nicely. #pool #crazypaving #waterfeature #jandsscapes #gardendesign
Plant of the moment: Roses. Although high maintenance, roses are worth the work with the many varieties on offer, wow factor and wonderful scent. There is a rose for everyone, from climbing and rambling roses to carpet roses that cover the ground and the classic shrub and tea roses. Coming in shades of reds, pinks, yellows, white and oranges they really light up a summer garden. Which is your favourite? #roses #englishcountrygarden #cottagegardens #rosegardens #climbingrose #plantingdesign #gardendesigner
The brief for this garden redesign was to create a hidden seating area at the back of the garden, where it borders woodland. Step through the gap in the rhododendrons and discover the secret fire pit area with a log wall to shelter it. Another, less hidden seating area was created with an oak pergola and @quercus_uk fence panels. Paving and walling stone from @countrysuppliesuk . Now the dust has settled it’s time to reflect on a fund raising trip myself and 8 others embarked on. Last week I took some time off work to embark on an adventure to help raise funds for charity. We did 6 Countries in 6 days passing through England, France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands covering over 670 miles.
What an amazing experience with some fantastic friends sharing some of the most beautiful cycle lanes in Europe. We have raised over £6000 for Alzheimer’s Society a charity that has supported the families of riders in our group. Thanks Rob for getting the route planning so perfect. If you are able to support we would be so grateful

Visited a few gardens this week that we planted back in the late-Summer/Autumn. Plenty of flower coming through now. As always, the Nepeta is having a good time of it. Rosa `Kew Gardens`, Penstemon `Raven`, Salvia `Caradonna`
Plant of the moment: Salvia ‘Caradonna’. This perennial Salvia is a favourite in our planting schemes as it flowers from early summer to autumn with this beautiful vibrant purple. It’s quite compact compared to later flowering Salvias and is even happy on the clay soil around this area! #salvia #salviacaradonna #summerflowers #plantingdesign #purpleflower
From design, to reality. This old vicarage was a charming house but the garden let it down. With some careful designing, the wrap around garden has been transformed with materials and a style that fits perfectly with the characterful building. Two separate seating areas mean that the garden can be enjoyed throughout the day and evening and new planting softens the edges of the paving. It’s International Picnic Day! A picnic doesn’t have to be far from home, why not enjoy some alfresco dining in your own garden? Which spot would you pick? #internationalpicnicday #picnic #alfrescodining #outdoordininguk #outdoorfurniture
Work in progress at a site in Berkhamsted. Here the guys are part way through laying the Desert Sand Limestone paving.
