This project in Tring involved creating a family-friendly garden for a new build home.

The aim was to develop a contemporary outdoor space that felt structured and refined, while still allowing for relaxed, everyday use.

The Challenge

As with many new build properties, the garden started as a blank canvas with little privacy or structure.

The design needed to introduce character and usability while ensuring the space remained open and functional for family life.

OUR DESIGN APPROACH

We focused on creating a series of defined but connected spaces, using materials and planting to add depth and interest.

The layout balances harder landscaping with softer planting to ensure the garden feels both contemporary and welcoming.

KEY FEATURES

Zoned Outdoor Living Spaces

The garden has been organised into clearly defined areas for dining, relaxing and play, ensuring it supports both family use and entertaining.

Lawn for Family Use

A generous lawn area has been retained to ensure the garden remains practical, providing space for children to play freely.

Porcelain Terrace and Material Contrast

Porcelain paving forms the main structure of the garden, complemented by areas of gravel and brick to introduce texture and visual interest.

Integrated Water Feature

A bespoke feature combines a porcelain-clad bench with a water blade, creating a focal point that also delivers gentle movement and sound.

Planting for Privacy and Shelter

Planting has been used to create subtle screening and a sense of enclosure, with tall grasses and perennials adding both height and softness.

Lighting and Atmosphere

Carefully positioned lighting enhances the garden in the evening, adding atmosphere and extending its usability beyond daylight hours.

The Outcome

The finished garden successfully balances contemporary design with practical family use.

Through a combination of structured layout, thoughtful planting and carefully integrated features, the space now feels established, welcoming and well-suited to everyday living.
