J&S Scapes are currently in the process of building a design project we completed earlier in the year. As part of the brief, the client was keen to create a space with clean lines, architectural shapes and instant impact. The property is a combination of Georgian and Victorian heritage, so the design was required to be sympathetic to the history of the site.

When developing the design, the decision was taken to incorporate plenty of topiary. Simple stylised shapes have been chosen with cubes of Yew, clipped Box hedging and pleached Hornbeam. The specimens can be purchased as mature specimens and add an instant sense of history and permanence to the garden. When planted within a herbaceous border they can really act as an ‘anchor’ for the scheme, adding structure and winter interest. When placed within a meadow or naturalistic planting scheme they are also a great contrast which further adds to the clarity of their shape.

With the strict geometry of the Georgian facade, we look forward to seeing how the topiary works with and adds to this property.
